Another illegal occupation in Eldorado Park

Residents are demanding urgent intervention from authorities, as the crisis committee continue to illegally occupy vacant land over housing concerns.

The Gauteng Housing Crisis Committee (GHCC) has led another illegal land occupation protest in Eldorado Park Ext 4, on November 1.

Residents are demanding that the authorities address the ongoing housing crisis and lack of basic services in the area.

Residents in Eldorado Park Ext 4 say they have waited too long for proper housing and basic services such as water and electricity.

According to GHCC Eldorado Park co-ordinator Fagmeda Edries, the key issues are the ongoing housing crisis and lack of affordable housing options, inadequate access to basic services such as water, sanitation and electricity, and concerns over safety and security in the community.

She said they began occupying the land over the weekend, with at least nine structures, and they expect more people to erect their structures.

Edries said the community demands:

* Immediate provision of affordable housing options for low-income residents
* Installation of basic services such as water, sanitation, and electricity
* Prioritisation of community safety and security
