The City of Johannesburg EMS has urged residents to remain alert as disruptive rainfall continues across several parts of the metro.

According to EMS spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi, no major incidents were reported overnight or on Sunday morning. However, he warned that the ongoing wet weather is creating dangerous conditions on the roads and in low-lying neighbourhoods.

“Motorists are urged to continue to exercise caution while driving, extend the safe following distance, and avoid crossing flooded roads and low-lying bridges,” said Mulaudzi.

He also appealed to communities living in high-risk areas to take extra care.

“Our residents in low-lying areas, especially informal settlements, must avoid crossing river streams when conducting daily activities,” he said.

Mulaudzi further cautioned faith-based organisations to refrain from conducting baptisms or cleansing rituals in rivers while water levels remain high.

“Most of our waterways are full. This is to prevent drowning incidents,” he added.

As a precautionary measure, Disaster Management Monitoring Teams have been deployed across all seven regions of the city. Mulaudzi confirmed that all fire stations remain fully operational and the specialised Aquatic Rescue Unit is on standby for any water-related emergencies.
