Ekasi Braai Festival returns to Soweto for second edition

Families and communities are invited to enjoy meat, local foods, clothing stalls, and entertainment at Ubuntu Kraal in Orlando West on November 29.

The second edition of the Ekasi Braai Festival (EBF), powered by Supastore, is bringing the rich braai culture to local communities and will be hosted at Ubuntu Kraal in Orlando West, Soweto, on November 29.

Meat lovers can expect a variety of red meat and wors supplied by Supastore Dlamini Butchery, along with dumplings, pap and chakalaka. There will also be local clothing stalls, a bar area and a dedicated kiddies’ entertainment zone.

Families will get to bond over succulent meat and meals with music as well

The day is set to bring together families and the broader community as the December braai season kicks off.

While a braai is central to South African cuisine, it is more than just grilling meat – it is about creating a shared experience where friends and families gather around the fire.

Organiser of the EBF, Sidwell Tshingilane, said: “We’re celebrating South African braai culture with lots of meat, food and entertainment.

“We hope this event will be a blast and that everyone, from near and far, will enjoy themselves with their families.”

Studies have shown that the first braai in the world may have taken place in South Africa more than a million years ago, and this event continues to honour that heritage.

The festival will celebrate the rich braai history of our local communities, promoting unity as well
