Seven unlicensed firearms seized as police arrest two suspects in Lufhereni

Doornkop police were patrolling around Lufhereni area when they came across a suspicious looking Toyota hilux with six occupants that include two women and four men.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mpho Tshetlhane said upon noticing the police, four of the suspects jumped out of the vehicle and fled, while two men, aged 42 and 50, were arrested.

“The suspects were searched, and one was found in possession of two unlicensed pistols.

“Police also searched the vehicle and recovered unlicensed firearms and ammunition, including three rifles, two shotguns, and 97 live rounds: 68 rifle rounds, 21 pistol rounds, and eight shotgun rounds,” said Tshetlhane.

He added that the police also recovered 48 packets of cigarettes, a bolt cutter, and a crow bar.

According to Tshetlhane, police preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects are linked to a business robbery that occurred in Fochville on February 22.

Tshetlhan further stated that the arrested suspects will appear at the local magistrate’s court soon, facing charges of business robbery, possession of unlicensed firearms, and ammunitions.
Police investigations are continuing.
