Pam Sibanyoni, deputy chairperson of the ANC Freedom Charter branch in Ward 19, told Urban News that Simelane was a humble young man who served with passion and commitment.
“Clr Simelane was always present and willing to put in the hard work at any time of day. He loved and respected his job and wanted to leave a legacy in his community. We have lost a good soldier,” said Sibanyoni.
She also extended gratitude to his family for allowing the community to share in his life and service.

Simelane’s uncle, Mr Zwane, said the family was shocked by his passing and reflected on his quiet and humble nature.

“He was a very quiet and humble man growing up. We were surprised when we learnt he was part of the ANC and later became councillor for Ward 19, but it was clearly his calling,” he said.
Zwane added that Simelane had recently shown signs of recovery after being admitted to hospital, and the family had remained hopeful.
“Our hearts are shaken, but we believe only God knows,” he said.
SANCO Ward 19 interim chairperson Sandile Mqhayi described Simelane as a passionate young leader committed to improving service delivery in his community.
Community member and close friend Veli Mthethwa shared how he first met Simelane while working together on assisting a grieving family.

“He served with love, and I stayed close to him ever since. The community has lost a big part of itself,” he said.
Simelane’s passing has left a deep void, with community members remembering him as a dedicated young leader whose legacy of service will continue to be felt.
