New prefects welcomed for Mdelwa Hlongwane Primary

High spirits filled the hall as parents showed pride in their children for showing leadership skills which led to them being chosen as the 2025 prefects.

An inauguration ceremony for the 2025 prefects was hosted at Mdelwa Hlongwane Primary School (MHPS) in Pimville on February 28.

Prefects are usually chosen to help instil discipline in the school together with the educators, this also helps develop leadership skills that will benefit them in the future.

Principal of MHPS, Lindiwe Nxumalo, said: “Today is a special day as we inaugurate prefects in our school.

Parents and families of the prefects beaming with joy.

“This is a yearly thing and is in the constitution of the school.

“Our school needs to have prefects because not only do they help in with instilling discipline but they also assist in making sure that we attain our vision such as decreasing bullying which is a huge ill in schools.”

The learners were honoured with blazers.

Nxumalo told Urban News that not only do they look for academic success, but they also look for leadership skills when choosing the candidates because they also need to set an example for the other learners.

She added that she hopes that they leave the school with a legacy of alleviating bullying.

The 2025 prefects were given their blazers and signed the pledge that they would lead with dignity.
