Emdeni Secondary School achieves distinction-level pass rate

The school recorded a matric pass rate of 90.2%, an increase of 6.9% from the 83.3% achieved in the 2024 National Senior Certificate examinations.

The acting principal of Emdeni Secondary School said resilience and discipline played a crucial role in helping learners achieve a distinction-level pass rate.

Muthuhadini Mbendzi, who has been leading the school since July, said the school did not experience any major challenges during the matric examinations, as learners remained focused and disciplined.

The school achieved a matric pass rate of 90.2%, an increase of 6.9% from the 83.3% recorded in the 2024 National Senior Certificate examinations.

A total of 112 learners wrote the examinations, resulting in 55 bachelor’s passes, 29 diploma passes and 17 higher certificate passes.

Mbendzi said the school was excited and proud to have reached a 90% pass rate, describing the results as a major achievement.

“We have been consistent with the 2025 matric class since the beginning of the year. We held weekend classes as part of our intervention programme and placed learners in afternoon study sessions from Monday to Thursday.

“We also held morning classes, but the most effective strategy, we believe, was hosting four cross-nights during the examination period from term three, while involving parents throughout the journey,” he said.

He said the school was grateful for the hard work shown by learners and reminded them that the next chapter of their lives was beginning, as many would be entering institutions of higher learning.

He encouraged them to continue working hard and to remain confident in their abilities.

Mbendzi added that for those who did not succeed in 2025, it was not the end of the road, as they could still take advantage of the second chance opportunities offered by the Department of Education.
