Katinga to face Sundowns
Meadowlands based Benny’s Sports Development Academy aims at producing players for the PSL.
After a magnificent performance at the Sanlam Kay Motsepe Schools Cup, Benny’s Sports Development Academy attacking midfielder Lesedi Katinga has been invited to attend soccer clinics run by Premiership giants, Mamelodi Sundowns.
The clinics will run daily from November 29 to December 4.
The school finished in seventh position in this U19 competition.
Not only will he get an opportunity to be trained by some of the best soccer development coaches in South Africa, but will get to play against the Mamelodi Sundowns first team as well.
At the end of the camp, three or four players will be invited to join the Sundowns development academy and Katinga is hoping to be one of them.
The young player is not new to Sundowns as he was invited to attend trials for the club in 2011 and 2012 but was not selected into the academy.
“This year I have been invited to attend the camp and I am hoping that it will be a case of third time lucky.
“I just have to work hard and focus on my training and think that my soccer career has a better chance at Sundown as there are more opportunities and the facilities are better,” he said.
Playing in the tournament has exposed Katinga to the sponsors and he has learnt how they help people save money through investing wisely.
As provincial champions of this tournament Benny’s received R100 000 to be spent on projects that will benefit the school and the community at large.
FK Tjiane was provincial final runner up thereby qualifying for a spot in the national finals where they finished in 13th out of the 18 schools competing.
