Soweto Football Association and Clinix Stix Morewa Soccer Challenge organiser, Phil Mogodi has confirmed that last week’s finals of the competition lived up to expectations.
He said they hosted one of the most successful competitions and are hoping to continue developing youngsters from grassroots through such events.
“Everything went as planned and fans were kept entertained as matches produced were breath-taking with players showing a great deal of talent,” he said.
The finals featured the U9s, U11, U13, U15, U17, seniors and girls teams.
Mogodi said they are hoping to grow bigger and better than the previous years and increase a number of teams, expose talent and continue to keep children away from loitering.
“We are aiming to add value to football and attract more teams to play organised football,” said Mogodi.
He said such competitions will help some youngsters reach professional levels at a young age and will help them to show their talent and realise their dreams.
FC Barcenal won the competition with its U9 beating Real Hearts Vine by 1-0 while Mapetla Young Professionals lost 3-1 to Academy FC of Meadowlands.
The U13 final was clinched by Pimville All Blacks after claiming the scalp of Mamelodi Sundowns.
Soweto Ladies regained their title after giving Coesus Ladies a 4-1 drubbing.
The main event was clinched by Kliptown Youth Programme after a 1-0 nail biting score against Pimville Westham.
The tournament will be played again next year.
