Ladies soccer challenge reaches boiling point

Women's soccer league on the cards.

The Sakha-Umphakathi Forum Women’s Tournament has reached boiling point with teams knocking each other out.

This exciting ladies soccer extravaganza started last week with eight U15 and eight U17 teams battling each other.

The tournament is played in different grounds in Zola and winners will receive a trophy and a brand new soccer kit.

It is organised by Sakha-Umphakathi Forum and one of the organisers, Khayalethu Bandla said they formed this tournament to revive women football and help in producing professional players who will represent the country in future.

“We realised that women soccer is not popular in our township and decided to invite teams and form this tournament. “We are hoping to create a league after this competition and invite as many teams as we can to join and play organised football,” said Bandla.

The finals of this tournament will be played on February 8 and former Banyana Banyana player, Nelisiwe Mthembu is the tournament ambassador.
