Netball tourney lives up to expectations

Storm Breakers Netball Club coach, Bonakele Mzamo hopes to revive netball in Soweto.

Storm Breakers Netball Tournament lived up to expectations as teams were battling each other for a prestigious trophy in various age groups.

The tourney took place at Zone Five Grounds and catered for the U13, U15, U17 and open.

Winners in the open division were Shakers Netball Club. Diepkloof Arsenal won in the U13 and U15 while Hellenic scooped the U15 challenge.

Tournament organiser, Bonakele Mzamo said the tournament went well with players showing their skills and talent. “This was our inaugural tourney and I am happy with the teams’ attendance. “It shows that soon we can be able to develop netball in the township and invite many teams to take part in our events,” said Mzamo.

The competition acted as part of reviving Soweto netball and to attract more netball teams to join the league.

The league has already started and teams are still invited to take part.

Mzamo said they have invited many teams in Soweto to take part in this event so that they can find a way forward on how to develop the sport and form an organised league that can be sponsored.

Mzamo is one of the people who are working hard to revive netball and has played a great part in forming the league.

He said the next tournament will be hosted in April.
