Pirates to host soccer trials

Local players to try their luck at Orlando Pirates trials.

Orlando Pirates will host soccer trials at Braamfischer on Saturday and at Dobsonville Grounds on Sunday.

The trials will be for the U16 and U19 divisions and will start at 10am to 4pm.

According to one of the Pirates development coaches, Mandla Qhogi the trials are aimed at developing and recruiting local players.

“Every player is invited to the trials and as coaches we will be selecting players who will join Pirates development team this season,” said Qhogi.

Among the coaches who will be conducting the trials will be Augusto Palacios. Palacios is a Peruvian football coach and a former football player.

He’s been recently coaching Pirates in the Premier Soccer League. During his years as a professional footballer he played for a number of clubs in Peru, Costa Rica, Hong Kong, Venezuela, Finland, West-Germany and Australia.

He played six internationals for Peru.

Palacios has previously managed clubs in South Africa, Peru and Turkey and the women’s national team of Hong Kong and the national team of South Africa. Any youngster willing to take part at the trials should be at the grounds at 10am.-
