Hundreds fed in two days

'This journey has changed our perspective on a lot'.

Over two days, hundreds of less fortunate people from Eldorado Park have been fed by Sunlight.

“We want to prove that one bottle of Sunlight dishwashing liquid can wash 30 000 plates.

“We obviously needed dirty plates to embark on this challenge and there is no better way to get plates dirty than by feeding people,” Thando Fani, the onsite coordinator said.

The Sunlight team have been travelling across the country since July and will complete their challenge on August 16.

“This journey has changed our perspective on a lot.

“We saw a child get excited for an ice-block, he never held one in his hand before, we saw people eat meat for the first time in their lives,” Fani said.

He said the experience is fulfilling.

Esther Williams who was in the queue to eat said the meal would help because she struggles to make ends meet.

“This is a good thing that Sunlight is doing for us because I am saving on the money I would’ve used today for bread,” Williams said.

She said that she saw many homeless people in the queue.

“I won’t go back for a second helping because there are other people that must also eat,” Williams said.

Sunlight washed 17 275 plates on Tuesday with just over half of the dishwashing liquid remaining.
