Local soccer coach Nathan Davies who is commonly referred to by footballers as ‘Mourinho’, recently made history by winning the local soccer league and cup double in a matter of months.
Davies was born in Kliptown and moved to Eldorado Park, Extension Nine when he was a young boy. “I spent most of my youth in Extension Nine, that’s my home,” he said.
Coach Davies always knew that soccer was his passion.
“I started playing soccer when I was seven-years-old and immediately fell in love with the art. It’s not a sport to me, it’s my life,” he said.
The soccer-mad coach decided to start coaching boys because he recognised that the youngsters from Eldorado Park are talented.
“I wanted to make sure the boys I coach become true men with discipline,” he added.
Davies won the Safa Promotional League with local team Eldos Spurs which led them to be promoted to the lucrative SAB Safa League, it does not stop there because he and his team, F.C Strokes, recently won the Steven Pienaar Community Cup for the second time in only three years.
His impressive CV includes Safa Introductory, Dutch coaching and a Safa UEFA C license. Apart from coaching Strokes FC and Eldos Spurs, he is also coaching football at the Deutsche Internationale Schule Johannesburg.

His list of honours includes winning the Kliptown Walter Sisulu Easter tournament thrice, winning the Nedbank Cup as well as the Patriotic Alliance CUP. He also worked closely with the Pirates icon, Augusto Palacios at the Orlando Pirates development.
The God-fearing coach encourages all youngsters to pursue their dreams, “Eldorado Park has talent in abundance, we just need a platform and chance to show our God-given talent,” He concluded by thanking everyone who has supported him on his journey.
“I cannot take all the credit, the boys I work with inspire me to keep pushing and I am thankful for that,” he said.
