Diepkloof Coventry FC topples defending champs in U11 Clinix thriller

Defending champions fall to determined Coventry FC side in Clinix Stix Morewa Challenge tournament U11.

In a tightly contested match at the Diepkloof Zone 5 sports ground, Diepkloof Coventry FC outclassed Soweto United Academy 1-0 in the Clinix Stix Morewa Challenge tournament U11 on May 17.

The match was a closely contested affair. Both teams created scoring opportunities, but only one found the back of the net.

The first half belonged to Diepkloof Coventry FC, as they dominated possession and created several chances.

Diepkloof Coventry FC and Soweto United Academy gave it their all in the first half, pouring out every bit of energy on the field.

The highlight of the half came when Fumani Shiluvane scored the decisive goal, giving his team a 1-0 lead going into the break.

Despite their best efforts, Soweto United Academy struggled to find the net, and the score remained unchanged at halftime.

In the second half, Soweto United Academy came out strong, determined to level the score.

They created several scoring opportunities, but the Diepkloof Coventry FC defense ultimately stopped their efforts. Despite the pressure, Diepkloof Coventry FC held firm, and the score remained locked at 1-0.

Sihle Mazomba, Soweto United Academy coach, said: “We knew we were not fully prepared, but I don’t think it was a bad game.

“Our loss came down to a goalkeeper’s mistake. Overall, it was an average performance, and we are confident we can do better. As defending champions, we know our fans and the community expect great things from us.”

“The match was tough because we faced the defending Clinix champions, but we managed to knock them out.

We dominated the first half, and afterwards, we were nervous about them equalising. Despite that, I’m confident we have a good chance of winning the tournament,” said Steven Hlongwane, coach of Diepkloof Coventry FC.

The win saw Diepkloof Coventry FC progress in the tournament while Soweto United Academy was eliminated.
