Teen arrested for attempted murder in Eldorado Park

The arrest follows information received on July 11 about an incident that allegedly took place at about 22:30.

A 17-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with an attempted murder case in Eldorado Park following a joint operation by the police and Gauteng Traffic Wardens on July 14.

Eldorado Park Police Station commander Brigadier Mkhacani Maluleke said the arrest followed information received on July 11 about an incident that allegedly occurred at about 22:30.

According to Maluleke, the teenager allegedly became involved in an altercation with another individual during which the victim was stabbed in the neck before the suspect fled the scene.

Maluleke said an attempted murder case was subsequently opened at Eldorado Park Police Station.

Following intelligence gathering, members of the SAPS Crime Prevention Unit, Crime Intelligence and Gauteng Traffic Wardens conducted a joint operation on July 14 at about 13:00.

He said the team proceeded to Concord Flats, where the suspect was located and arrested.

“During the operation, police conducted a search of the premises and recovered several items, including a plastic packet containing 86.4g of suspected crystal methamphetamine, three cellular phones believed to contain information linked to ongoing gang-related investigations, and R310 in cash suspected to be proceeds from drug dealing,” said Maluleke.

He added that further information allegedly linked the teenager to a 2025 triple murder case in Kliptown, which remains under investigation.

“The suspect has been detained at the Walter Sisulu Juvenile Centre due to his age and is expected to appear in court soon on the attempted murder charge,” he said.

Acting Eldorado Park station commander Colonel Reyneck commended the team for its swift response and co-operation, saying the operation highlighted the importance of actionable intelligence and collaboration between law enforcement agencies in ensuring community safety.
