Running With the Homies is inspiring young people to choose fitness, discipline and purpose over negative influences.

Running With the Homies (RWH) is a community-driven running club based in Meadowlands, Soweto.

It was founded by a group of young people seeking a better lifestyle and it has successfully grown into a movement that promotes discipline, wellness, and meaningful community impact.

In a community where many young people face daily challenges and negative influences, the group chose to create a different path through fitness and community engagement.

The group has motivated other young people to join for a better lifestyle.

What started as a small group of friends has become a growing platform for accountability, growth, and purpose.

Oath Kungoane, secretary at RWH, said: ‘’I joined the running club because I believe in the power of community and purpose. For me, running is more than just fitness; it is a way to build discipline, connect with people, and grow mentally. Being part of this club allows me to contribute to something bigger than myself, while helping create a space where others feel motivated, supported, and inspired.”

‘”The experience has been really positive. The group is welcoming, and it’s been great meeting new people while pushing myself physically.

“The running club is a great initiative. It creates a sense of community, promotes a healthy lifestyle, and makes exercising more enjoyable,” said Seripe.

Weekly runs take place on Wednesday at Fiat Sports Centre, Zone 9 Meadowlands, at 17: 30, and on Saturday at Zone 2 Park at 06: 00.
