Pimville Easter holiday programme keeps children safe and engaged

A four-day community initiative in Pimville provided a safe space for children through games and educational activities during the school holidays.

Rainbow Stars Youth Organisation (RSYO) hosted a 4-day Easter holiday program aimed at keeping children within the community safe while their parents are at work, at the Pimville Community Centre from March 30 to April 2.

RSYO is a youth empowerment program aimed at empowering the youth and making sure that they do not participate in social ills like drugs by introducing different programs that will keep them away from the streets.

‘’This program is designed to make sure that our children are off the streets because we know that trafficking, rape and different social ills are taking over our communities, and I want to try to eradicate such,’’ said Radebe.

The program included indigenous games and educational activities that will keep the children stimulated. RSYO worked with the UJ Community Engagement.

Volunteer champion from UJ, Koketso Montsiwa, shared that it is a pleasure being able to spend time with the children.

He told Urban News: ‘’I was beaming with pride when one child was reading and they did exceptionally; it showed that there is so much potential. I think that such programs are important for our communities,’’ said Motsiwa.
