Boy dies after being hit by bakkie in Klipspruit

Preliminary investigations indicate that the vehicle was travelling along Mbambisa and Mofokeng streets when it struck the child.

A boy was killed in a motor vehicle accident in Klipspruit, Soweto, at about 07:20 on May 19.

The child sustained fatal injuries and was declared dead at the scene. The driver of the Isuzu bakkie, a man, was not injured.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the vehicle was travelling from east to west along Mbambisa and Mofokeng streets when it struck the child.

JMPD spokesperson Superintendent Xolani Fihla expressed condolences to the family of the deceased.

“The JMPD extends its deepest condolences to the family of the child who tragically lost his life earlier today,” said Fihla.

Fihla urged motorists to exercise extreme caution, especially in residential areas and near intersections, and to remain vigilant of pedestrians at all times. He also encouraged parents and guardians to educate children about road safety and the importance of using designated crossing points.

A culpable homicide case will be registered at Kliptown SAPS for further investigation.
