JMPD officer kills pregnant women in hit-and-run

The deceased was declared dead at the scene after being struck by the car that threw her into the air.

The family of a 23-year-old pregnant woman is seeking justice after their daughter’s life was cut short in an alleged hit-and-run accident involving a JMPD officer in Moffatview on the evening of May 11.

The incident has sparked outrage, with the family of the deceased, identified as Logan Lemek, demanding immediate arrests and accountability.

According to eyewitnesses, Lemek was walking along the roadside with a friend after attending a job training session when a speeding vehicle allegedly swerved, struck her, and threw her into the air. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Family members allege that when multiple JMPD units arrived, officers surrounded and attended to the driver rather than the victim or her grieving loved ones.

“All of them were around him. No one was around my child,” said a relative.

JMPD spokesperson superintendent Xolani Fihla said: “The JMPD leadership has been formally briefed on this matter.

“The department confirms that a criminal case of culpable homicide has been filed with SAPS, and it has been forwarded to IPID for investigation. The matter is being treated with the utmost urgency.”

Fihla further condemned any unlawful actions, retaliation, or vigilantism after stating that the department is aware some JMPD members residing in the Moffatview area have been receiving threats following the incident.
