Strubenvale family traumatised

A family was traumatised on Friday when four armed robbers forced their way into their home.

According to Springs police spokesman Captain Johannes Ramphora, a young man from Kent Circle in Strubenvale returned home with his girlfriend and grandmother.

“His girlfriend had left and he started making a fire in the fireplace, when he heard his father screaming,” says Capt Ramphora.

The father was pushing the door from the inside trying to prevent it from opening, but could not hold out against the four armed robbers who were pushing the door from the outside.

Capt Ramphora adds two of the robbers were armed with firearms and the other two with knifes. They ordered the father and mother to lie down and they tied them up with cable ties.

The son was also tied up, but was untied again when the robbers needed him to open the safe for them.

Capt Ramphora says the girlfriend returned to the scene and when the robbers noticed her, shots were fired but no one was injured.

The robbers stole a revolver, cash and jewellery from the safe, the girlfriend’s BlackBerry cellphone and her white Ford Focus.

The car was recovered in Marabastad near Pretoria on the same night.

The family was still too traumatised to talk to the Advertiser at the time of going to print.

Anyone with information on the case can contact the Springs police on 011 365 5700/19/20 or Capt Ramphora on 079 694 6936.
