Colleen Naude, the caretaker of Toekoms, a metro housing complex in Seventh Street North where senior citizens reside, repeatedly reported the blocked drain to the metro, but nothing came of it.
Three reference numbers and promises were given in July, but nothing was done about the problem.
The citizens complained about the smell being so bad that they could not leave their doors or windows open.
According to Naude, the metro finally arrived on the scene last Wednesday at 4pm, but could not fix the problem and had to contact their Boksburg branch to help out with a bigger truck.
“The sewer had to be drained with a suction pump from the truck. They worked until 8:30pm that night,” said Naude.
She adds a parking lot directly next to the drain was completely flooded with sewage.
