The owner of the shop, specialising in electronics, was sitting at the door reading a book, when a man entered and asked for a cellphone charger.
According to Springs police spokesman Captain Johannes Ramphora, the owner showed the robber various chargers and he said he would be back.
“After a while the man returned to buy the charger, but he brought along three accomplices,” says Capt Ramphora.
While the owner reached for the charger, the man pulled out a firearm and pointed it at him.
Capt Ramphora adds two of the man’s accomplices also entered the shop, while the fourth man guarded the entrance to the shop.
The armed robber tied the victim’s hands together with cable ties and left him behind the counter.
They stole cash, a Sahara laptop, two Pioneer sub woofers, two BlackBerry smart phones as well as 32 cellphones.
“The robbers left the scene without firing a shot,” says Capt Ramphora.
No arrests have been made.
