Derelict tennis courts

The derelict tennis court in Ermelo Road has now lost all the green sheeting that hid it.

Springs resident Bob Gillies is disgusted by the state of what was formerly known as the Valedale tennis courts on the corner of Ermelo and McComb roads.

Since the last report on Valedale Tennis Club’s disgusting state in August 2011, nothing has changed.

Gillies says a few sheets had been missing but the rest was removed in the last week and some during the day since a large section was there when he passed in the morning on the way to work and was missing the same day when he returned home that afternoon.

“Is this theft in daylight or is this the metro removing it for a reason,” asks Gillies.

Metro spokesman Sam Modiba says their officials inspected the property last week and found metro workers removed the corrugated sheets.

They indicated that they were removing the corrugated sheets because they fear that they will be stolen, as a few had already been stolen.

“The corrugated sheets already removed were counted as well as the remaining ones together with the steel palisades, which was removed later in the same week,” says Modiba.

The stand is believed to be privately owned.

A report pertaining to the cancellation of the lease agreement and alienation of the properties has been finalized and will be submitted to Council.

Gillies adds now we can see the derelict building in full view to add to the Spar in town as the way Springs looks today.
