A circle just jumped in front of me

The newly constructed traffic circle on the corner of Reier and Clydesdale roads in Daggafontein has motorists up in arms against the metro's roads department.

Vice chairman of the Clydesdale CPF Barries Barnard says the circle spells ‘accident about to happen’ and will claim lives.

“The circle is is not placed correctly and Reier Road forms a T-junction into Clydesdale Road.

“This means traffic coming down Clydesdale Road towards Daggafontein will have to turn into Reier Road to get access to Clydesdale again,” he adds

Metro police senior superintendent Jan Albrecht visited the site with Barnard and says the circle is not marked correctly.

Albrecht assured Barnard the matter will be reported and investigated.

According to Barnard numerous vehicles drove over the circle without noticing it as no warning signs have been put up to inform motorists of the circle ahead.

“A silver grey BMW full of occupants were travelling down Clydesdale Road towards Daggafontein at 2am, on Sunday and drove over the circle when their vehicle hit with a huge tree,” he adds.

No one was seriously injured during this accident.

Another Daggafontein resident Sheri Harris says the markings on the road is pathetic.

“Large trucks will not make it around the circle,” she adds.

It is alleged that the whole construction process has been put on hold for further investigation.

No comment was received from the metro at the time of going to print.
