Annual World Prayer Day

The Women’s World Day of Prayer will take place on March 7, at the Geduld Methodist Church, 63 Fifth Avenue, Geduld at 11am.

This prayer day is an international ecumenical Christian laywomen’s initiative.

It is run under the motto “informed prayer and prayerful action” and is celebrated annually in over 170 countries on the first Friday of March every year.

“The movement aims to bring together women of various races, cultures and traditions in a yearly common Day of Prayer, as well as in closer fellowship, understanding and action throughout the year,” says Beverley Linde.

Every year the worship service focuses on a different country and a specific theme.

She adds all are welcome to attend, men, women and children.

The first service of the day takes place on the island of Samoa as dawn breaks.

The world is then circled in prayer for 36 hours and the service is celebrated in over 170 countries until the last one of this special day takes place in American Samoa.
