
According to Springs police spokesman Captain Johannes Ramphora, the man bought food at a drive-through at 9.15pm, and drove around to find a quiet sport where he could enjoy his meal.
He stopped, left the motor running and while enjoying his food, he saw a Toyota Tazz stop in front of him.
“There were five men in the car, but only three got out of the vehicle and approached him,” says Cpt Ramphora.
The man then jumped out of his car and tried to run way, but one of the hijackers pulled out a firearm and called him back to his car.
While the victim was trying to grab his cellphone and wallet from his car, another man, also armed, went to the passenger’s side of the victim’s silver Opel Corsa.
Cpt Ramphora says the hijacker who called the victim back, then hit him over the head with the firearm and pushed him to the ground.
All three hijackers got into the silver car and drove off.
No shots were fired.
Three business robberies were reported last Friday.
At 11.30am, a man was standing behind a till in a supermarket in Reitz Avenue, Geduld Extension when three men entered the shop.
One pulled out a firearm and pointed it at the victim, while the other two were helping themselves to airtime and cigarettes.
Cpt Ramphora said when the victim’s brother came from the bathroom the armed robber also pointed the gun at him.
One of the two other robbers searched him, took his cash and ran away.
No shots were fired.
The second robbery took place at 3.30pm.
According to Cpt Ramphora, the owner of a shop was working in Fourth Steet, Geduld, when a man entered and asked to buy airtime.
Two more people entered when the potential airtime-buyer took out a fireram, pointed it at the owner and told him to be quiet.
Cpt Ramphora says the other two robbers tied the man up with cable ties and one of them took him to the toilet where he was locked up.
When it was quiet the victim called for help and a neighbour came to his rescue, untied him and called the police.
Money, cigarettes, toiletries and an airtime machine were stolen.
No shots were fired.
Another robbery took place at 6.45pm, in Third Avenue, Geduld.
The owner of a sop was busy at the till and his assistant was standing at the door, when three men entered.
Cpt Ramphora says one robber took out a firearm and pointed it at the assistant, while the other two went to the till where one robber took out a firearm and pointed it at the owner of the shop.
Both men were searched and the robbers took them to the back of the shop and ran away.
They took a Nokia cellphone, airtime, cash and cigarettes.
No shots were fired.
