Selcourt Methodist Church supports shavathon

Selcourt Methodist Church's shavathon was well supported on Sunday.

After the first service finished at 9am, people gathered outside in the parking area where Sharon Laas and her team waited under a gazebo.

The youth pastor Robbie Ngobeni was one of the first people to have his hair sprayed in different colours.

“This is to show an awareness to the cancer society and also to show we are caring about cancer patients,” he says.

He adds it is about showing love.

Margie Botha says she will support the shavathon as various of her friends are currently undergoing cancer treatment.

While Sharon and her team were shaving and spraying, two of the church members, Graham Thompson and David Wesson, were enjoying themselves preparing boerewors rolls.

“We braai the wors and sell the boerewors rolls to the people and all the proceeds will also go towards the shavathon,” says Graham.

Pastor Charly Wernich says he has shaved his hair before, but this year he is only going to have it sprayed.

“Next year I will shave it off again,” he adds.

Sharon was quite happy with the turnout and says they will do the handover of the money soon.
