Registration for 2015 school year already open

Ensure the kids are enrolled at the school of your choice

Registration for Grade One and Grade Eight for the 2015 school year started on April 7 when Gauteng Education MEC for Education Ms Barbara Creecy launched the Public School Admissions Campaign at Johannesburg Park Station.

The launch involved the distribution of pamphlets and encouraging parents to apply now to avoid the last minute rush in 2015

Creecy said at the launch there was a high demand for space in Gauteng schools. “We have over 2 000 public ordinary schools that accommodate 1.9 million learners.

Early registration will enable the department to plan for the children who are coming into the schooling system and to ensure that the right amount of school infrastructure, learner and teacher support material and furniture are allocated to schools.

“For parents it means they will be able to get a school that is closer to their place of work or residence,” the MEC added.

Gauteng Department of Education processed over 20 000 late applications for the 2014 academic year, an increase from 15 000 in the previous year.

Parents who wish to register their children for admission in a public school in Gauteng, have to go to their nearest school to pick up application forms for learners who want to start Grade One or Grade Eight in this province in 2015.

Learners who are not in Grades One and Eight also need to re-enrol.

These application forms should be returned to the school between April 15 and May 27, accompanied with the child’s birth certificate or a certified copy, at least one parent’s identity number, a parent’s proof of residence or work address, the child’s immunisation card (for Grade One), study permits for legal immigrants, asylum documents for refugees and asylum seekers and the child’s latest school report card.

Creecy urged parents to follow the whole registration process.

The MEC said, upon registering their children, parents had to ensure that schools provide them with a waiting list number.

“This waiting list number will indicate if the applicant is on waiting list A for parents within a feeder area of a school or waiting list B, parents outside of a feeder area of a school.
