Stepmother’s case postponed

The next court appearance is May 21

The bail application hearing of the stepmother of a two-year-old girl who died on April 6, has been postponed until May 21.

She was arrested on April 24 for child neglect and murder.

The toddler died after she visited her father and his family.

The father of the child apparently received a phone call from his wife at the end of March claiming the child fell off the couch and bumped her head.

When he arrived home he found the toddler unconscious and rushed her to the N17 Hospital.

After a computed axial tomography (CAT) scan was done, the child immediately underwent brain surgery.

On April 4, the doctor informed the parents that she was brain dead.

Two days later the child died.

Biko Zondo, senior prosecutor, says the bail application was not finalised last Tuesday and the case has been postponed until May 21 to finalise the application.

The stepmother stays in custody in Johannesburg Prison.
