Crime prevention raid paid off

School children found in possession of space cakes, dagga and 9mm ammunition

Three different schools in Springs and surrounding areas were the focus of the SAPS and EMPD units on Friday.

A discovery of two plastic holders containing space cakes, cupcakes baked with dagga, small bags of dagga and one 9mm round of ammunition.

These crime prevention visits were done by the SAPS’ Social Crime Prevention, Youth Desk, sector managers, corporate communication, two members of the support services and the EMPD’s social crime prevention and K9 Dog units.

Captain Johannes Ramphora, Springs police spokesman, says as well as the space cakes found in the two plastic holders, they found five small plastic packets of dagga and a brown paper packet of dagga.

The bags of dagga found weighed almost 36 grams.

One round of 9mm ammunition was found on one of the learners.

Ramphora says while these units were at one school, they received a tip-off about a group of schoolchildren having a party at a house in Struisbult.

The police found a group of children from different schools, one small bag of dagga and two bottles of alcohol.

Ramphora says the parents of these learners were also contacted.

The schools contacted the parents of these learners to take the necessary steps.

A man was arrested in front of a school in Selcourt selling drugs to the schoolchildren.

He will appear in court soon.
