74-year-old arrested after firearms and explosives found in Edelweiss home
Police received a tip-off that led them to a residence in Edelweiss where a search uncovered more than officers initially expected.
A 74-year-old man was arrested on August 7 after he was found in possession of unlicensed firearms and explosives at a residence in Edelweiss.
According to local police spokesperson Sergeant Charity Zwane, Springs SAPS crime prevention members received a tip-off about suspected explosives at the residence.
“Upon arrival, they searched the premises where explosives were found inside a safe. Further searches led to the discovery of several firearms and ammunition.
“They also found a firearm safe concealed above the ceiling, containing a large quantity of ammunition,” Zwane said.
Zwane added that the man failed to produce a licence and was arrested and detained at the Springs Police Station. He is expected to appear in court soon. The recovered items were booked into the station.
