Tattoo-a-thon goes global on June 6, and aims to raise R750 000 for a children’s cancer charity.
The third annual Tattoo-a-thon will make its debut across the globe to run concurrently with the same event in South Africa. Tattoo studios in eight cities around the country will host the event on the the same day with the aim of raising R750 000 for Childhood Cancer Foundation South Africa (Choc).
Choc is a nationwide organisation that provides holistic support for children suffering from cancer and life-threatening blood disorders.
The list of the quality tattoo studios in South Africa include those in Cape Town, Johannesburg, Pretoria, Durban, Bloemfontein, Port Elizabeth, East London and Pietermaritzburg (international studios available on our website).
The Tattoo-a-thon plans to raise the proceeds by generating a record 1 500 tattoos in one day, across the world.
“The overseas interest in Tattoo-a-thon from the past two year’s events clearly indicates that this event is wanted on the international stage.
“And we have therefore invited several studios to join in this year’s event,” says Jordan Gray, project organiser.
The event will feature talented tattoo artists from top studios in South Africa such as Wildfire Tattoos, Electric Eye, Metal Machine, and Fallen Heroes.
“All tattoos will be a set size, based on an hour’s work, and will cost only R700. Participants can book their tattoo directly with the tattoo studio and can visit www.tattooathon.co.za to choose an artist of their choice,” says Manuela Gray, co-founder and owner of Wildfire Tattoos in Long Street.
Temporary tattoos, at R10 each, will also be available for those who do not want permanent ink.
Choc’s goal is to improve the welfare and quality of care for children with cancer.
As a non-profit organisation, Choc relies heavily on the generosity of individuals and some caring companies, as well as fundraising projects such as the Tattoo-a-thon, which are essential in generating much-needed funds.
These vital funds allow Choc to continue providing support to the children and their families, and above all, to help them keep more than hope alive.
