Goslings getting bigger by the day

The goslings at Alida and Hennie Brits’ home in Selcourt Enclosure are doing well.

They are now being fed growing mash and are twice their size.

The Addie journalist could not believe her eyes when she saw the size of them and on some of their wings the growth of new feathers are visible.

Alida says they are still in the bigger pond at their house and it is becoming more impossible to get them out of the water in the evening.

She says when they try to catch them at night, they dive into the water and swim under water from the one side of the pond to the other.

To them it is a game, but it makes Hennie and Alida’s task more difficult, as they sleep in a wired mesh cage where they are safe from predators at night, and cannot be left in the cordoned off pond.

But still they enjoy the goslings and do their utmost to keep them as comfortable as they can and feed them to the best of their knowledge.

She says they will be sad when they have to release them when they are big enough to join the rest of their family in the big pond at the entrance of the enclosure.
