They performed for agents
Gabriella (12) and Ava (8) Cameron participated in the International Presentation of Performers (iPOP!)
Two sisters from Selection Park wowed hundreds of American agents in the drama and TV world.
Gabriella (12) and Ava (8) Cameron went to Los Angeles from December 26 to January 6 to participate in the International Presentation of Performers (iPOP!)
This event, usually held in Los Angeles, gives an opportunity for aspiring actors to perform and compete with their peers.
The competitions are also designed to challenge and promote aspiring actors with varying competition events and are judged by agents, managers and casting directors who generate both competition scores and call backs for face to face meetings at iPOP!
Gabriella got eight call backs and Ava 12 where they had to “sell” their talent, as if they are applying for work.
Both were also invited to perform at two red carpet evenings, where the best artists of the iPOP! competition received awards.
Both Gabriella and Ava won the best fashion print photo at the competition and had the best monologue in their age categories.
Ava was the runner-up actor of the year and third runner-up bikini model of the year.
Gabriella received several honourable mentions (top 10) such as in the best actor category and for the best smile.
The girls’ mother, Je-nean says the children are selected on merit to participate in the Los Angeles iPOP!.
They were part of the group of 30 children representing South Africa at this competition.
Gariella and Ava went to the South African audition during September and after being selected had to be trained by a talent coach in Pretoria to get ready to compete with the overseas children.
When they got there, they started with a four-day “boot camp” in acting, but as their preparation each one had to learn a TV advertisement which they performed in Los Angeles.
They also each did a monologue and were dialogue partners.
Their dialogue, that came from a scene of the Lion King, was a big hit.
During the competition both girls were offered work as actors or for TV advertising, but to take up this offer they will have to relocate to America and will have to learn the American accent.
Their dad, Paul, says the family will consider going overseas if it is meant to.
This move will is not be an easy one.
He and Je-nean have to find work in a city close to where the children will work, because they will not be allowed to live off the children’s earnings.
Je-nean says the children will in the mean time attempt to find work in the South African market.
