UPDATED: Baby death shock

Doctor denies location of baby's death.

One of the doctors who was present when three-month-old Gert Fourie died on Monday has commented on the story.

It was first reported that the baby died allegedly at a Springs’ doctor’s consulting rooms.

In an email to the Springs Advertiser, one of the doctors present said that the baby did not die in their rooms.

The doctor said the baby was attended to by two doctors who later called the police.

“The Ambulance services arrived 40 minutes later, after the baby’s death and I called for the police myself,” the doctor said.

In an interview with the family later in the day, Gert’s mother Monique said that when she first reached her son, at his creche, he was already cold and that after attempting CPR she rushed him to the doctor’s rooms.

Springs sector police were alerted to the death of the baby at 10.50am, and immediately went to the rooms to investigate.

When they arrived, they found the baby’s mother crying profusely, holding the infant.

Springs police spokesman Amanda Greybe claims blood was running from the baby’s nose.

The cause of death is not yet known.
