According to Springs police spokesman Captain Johannes Ramphora, a man was driving a panel van, on the N12 towards Daveyton, when he was stopped by the driver of a dark green Toyota Corolla.
It is alleged the woman driver was wearing a SAPS uniform and the Toyota Corolla was reportedly fitted with blue police lights.
Ramphora says it is alleged the woman asked the driver of the panel van for his driver’s licence.
“While the driver produced his driver’s licence, an armed man, also wearing a SAPS uniform, appeared at the driver side of the panel van and pointed his gun at the driver,” says Ramphora.
The driver of the panel van was told to get into the Corolla where two more suspects, also dressed in police uniform, were sitting in the backseat of the vehicle.
The woman drove off with the panel van, while the other three suspects and the man followed in the Corolla.
While driving two of the hijackers searched the victim and took his cellphone and cash.
Ramphora says, according to the victim, they were driving in the direction of Johannesburg, but changed direction and drove to Germiston.
The driver of the Corolla ordered the victim to get out of the vehicle, tied his hands behind his back and drove off leaving the victim stranded.
He was given a lift to the Cleveland Police Station where he opened a hijacking case and the case was transferred to the Springs Police Station.
“We don’t know what was inside the panel van or its value,” says Ramphora.
No arrests have been made.
Ramphora urges motorists to be vigilant when driving on the N12 and N17 freeways.
