Join stargazing and bird-watching evening with Wessa

The Springs/Nigel branch of the Wildlife Environmental Society of South Africa (Wessa) will be hosting a walk, stargazing and bird-watching evening at Marievale Bird Sanctuary on Saturday.

Those interested should meet in the picnic area at 4pm.

Stan Madden will be the leader of the guided bird walk at 4.30pm, followed by a bring and braai.

Braai fires will be provided.

Well-known Eastern Gauteng astronomer Andrew Helston will give a talk on the fascinating subject of astronomy.

“You will learn about nebulas and light years and lots more,” says Stan.

The stargazing will start at 7pm, and with the aid of a powerful telescope, the astronomer will guide the stargazers through the fascinating night skies.

Do not forget to bring your own binoculars and torches.

Everyone is invited and non-members are welcome.

An admission fee of R50 per car will be levied, all proceeds will be used for conservation purposes at Marievale.

A lucky draw will take place and there are prizes to be won.
