On Thursday, at about 3.10am, an armed suspect entered a shop at a petrol station on Paul Kruger Highway and, pretending to be a customer, ordered an airtime voucher.
According to SAPS spokesperson Capt Johannes Ramphora he suddenly pulled out a firearm and instructed one of the employees not to press the panic button and to put the till money into a bag.
The employee managed to press the panic button but the suspect took the money and fled the scene.
Ramphora says the employees heard a shot outside the shop.
No one was injured and the amount of money taken was not confirmed at the time of publishing.
“The suspect also took seven cellphones,” says Ramphora.
