District to host secondary school intervention programme camps

Gauteng East District will be host the 2017 Secondary School Intervention Programme Camps from October 2 to October 6.

The Gauteng East District is currently embarking on a Secondary School Intervention Programme (SSIP) to assist learners in its district to uplift their current academic performance for the 2017 National Senior Certificate Examinations.

The district will host walk-in-camps during the October holidays for Grade 12 learners and it will be its final drive from the district office and the province as a whole.

“This requires a tremendous amount of support and guidance from us, the parents, teachers and various stakeholders,” says Poovan Chetty, Gauteng Department of Education chief education specialist.

The main objective of the programme is to uplift the results in the district’s region, Ekurhuleni and ultimately Gauteng.

The camps will be hosted at 12 sites based at Daveyton, Etwatwa and Kwatsaduza which are HTS Springs, BB Myataza, Phandimfundo, Vezukhono, HB Nyathi, Lifa Ifa, Kenneth Masekela, Asser Maloka, NN Ndebele, Tsakane Ext 8, Mamellong and Geluksdal.

The camps begin on October 2 until 6 from 8am and 4pm daily.

“All Grade 12 learners must attend, to ensure a 100 per cent attendance rate,” says Chetty.

Transport will also be provided to learners who live away from home.

“We therefore call upon every parent, stakeholder and Faith Based Organisation to assist us in enabling every learner to attend these camps.”
