Bhairavi Sungum of Springs high tea for Women’s Day

“The day was full of jubilation as we commemorate women of all walks who dedicated their lives for the upliftment of our community and society,” says sungum chairperson Poovershree Pillay.

The Bhairavi Sungum of Springs successfully hosted their first ever Women’s Day High Tea on August 9 at the Springs Secondary School.

The event was to honour and pay tribute to the women in the community.

One-hundred-and-forty women from the community and surrounding areas attended the high tea and were treated to delicious treats with entertainment by the Shringaar Dance Academy and Benoni’s Nightingale Kamenie Katha.

Motivational speakers on the day included Aqeela Chouglay (biokineticist), Nicole Nadasan (BA Honours in Psychology and Psychometrics) and Dr Sheetal Daya (homoeopath).

The attendees also played games, competed in a lucky ticket draw and took part in an auction conducted by Roshini Govender.

“The sungum thanks all sponsors, attendees and donations received at this spectacular event.

“All funds raised will be used towards the purchase of a new vehicle for the Sungum’s Cultural and Welfare Needs.

“The day was full of jubilation as we commemorate women of all walks who dedicated their lives for the upliftment of our community and society,” says sungum chairperson Poovershree Pillay.
