Rusoord residents frustrated lack of maintenance by metro

This, the couple allege, is the result of a lack of maintenance by the metro over the years. The couple says they have never had a house inspection of their unit since they moved in.

Pensioners Phillip and Hester Koen fear for their health as their bathroom ceiling at the Rusoord complex is covered with mould.

The couple has been battling with this problem for two years and say their health has deteriorated with the condition of the flat.

Hester says she is coughing all the time now, which she never used to do before she moved into the flat.

“I asked the metro to fix it and I was told there was no money for repairs.

“The metro also said they would give me paint so I can fix it myself, but the paint never arrived.

“How am I supposed to get all the way up there?

“ I’m 73 years old,” says Phillip.

The couple says the mould in the bathroom is not the only problem they have had with the flat as the ceiling in their living room is covered with watermarks which have become worse over the years.
