The Senior Citizen Centre on First Street held their annual fête on Saturday.

Kindhearted residents spent their Saturday opening up their stalls, selling cakes, clothes, second-hand books, paintings, electronics etc.

The air was full of curiosity and joy as people from all over Springs started pouring in throughout the morning to peruse the various goods on sale.

Chefs Jaques Engelbrecht and Niels de Beer were busy making sandwiches and cooking other tasty meals in the kitchen.

Deon van Zyl was making pancakes and Susan Minnie prepared delicious cakes.

Tea and coffee were also on offer.

“The goal of the fête is to raise funds for the centre.

“A lot of work has been done over the past month, and the backbone of it all has been Jill Levitas.

“She’s gone out of her way to get donations for the club and she has collected and facilitated a lot for the fête”, says chairperson Bill Aver.

Aver goes on to say, “The centre was close to closing down around this time last year.

“Most of the money we make goes to improving the place.

“It was not in a good place when we took over.

“It’s really all about getting the place right and ready to work again.”
