Sector Three residents met with Springs police management on Saturday afternoon at Strubenvale Primary School.
Sector Three includes residents from Casseldale, Strubenvale, Vischkuil, Endicott, Kwazenzele informal settlement, Horses Head, Aston Lake, N17 informal settlement and Largo.
Speaking at the meeting, Springs SAPS station commander Brig Thembeka Gwebushe says these types of meeting are important as they are a way for the police to check on service delivery and figure out how best to respond to the challenges they face as a collective.
“We currently have 303 staff members at the Springs Police Station, 209 of which are involved with visible policing.
“There are six sectors in Springs and we are supposed to have two vehicles per sector, but we currently have one vehicle per sector due to various factors.
“Even so, police are supposed to respond when residents call and cannot say they don’t have a vehicle.
“If necessary, vehicles from other sectors will come and assist.
“Police must respond within 20 minutes of a resident’s call and if not, they must explain to the resident calling why there is a delay,” says Gwebushe.

Gwebushe also urged residents to be vigilant on the N12, especially the N12 Etwatwa off-ramp (hijackings, murders, and rapes) as it is a problem area for the police.
To contact the police, contact 10111 or if you cannot get through call the station directly call 011 365 5700 or 011 365 5719.
Sector chairperson Lucas Joubert urged residents to report crime so the police can advocate for more sector vehicles in the area and more police on the ground.
Residents’ complaints to police included no police vehicles being available during shift change, illegal miners, speeding and stray livestock.
Police say there is always a vehicle available during shift change and should not be used as an excuse to not respond to residents’ calls.
Additionally, police say they are aware that criminals are targeting the community during the shift change time and will work on it.
