Residents of Sector six meet with police

In Pollak Park and Wright Park, housebreaking is more prevalent compared to other areas in Sector Six.

Sector Six residents met with police last Wednesday evening to discuss the problems in the area.

Sector Six includes Geduld, Pollak Park, Wright Park, Dal Fouche, Reedville, Springs Extension and Never Never informal settlement.

Speaking at the meeting, Sector Six chairperson Arles Baloyi urged members to report crime to the police, no matter how small the case appears to be.

To open a case, one can call the sector vehicles on 071 675 7008 or 071 675 7009 and the police will come to you.

SSpings SAPS station commander Brig Thembeka Gwebushe says police cannot use the excuse of having no vehicles because if all the sector vehicles in the area are busy, sector vans from another area must come assist, within 20 minutes of having received the call.

In Sector Six, the problems vary according to the area.

Theft of motor vehicles, theft out of motor vehicles and domestic violence remain a problem in Geduld.

In Pollak Park and Wright Park, housebreaking is more prevalent compared to other areas in Sector Six.

SAPS sector leader WO Blackie Swart says Pollak Park represents a challenge for the police when it comes to patrolling because of the wide open spaces in the area.

“The new style of building where police cannot drive in between the houses also means we cannot see the whole area around the house when patrolling.

“As the police, we have developed a plan to solve these problems when we encounter them,” says Swart.

Ward Clr Thulani Simelane also praised the CPF for the work they do in the community and says they always go the extra mile.

“Not only do they petrol, but they also donate to others who have experienced some sort of tragedy,” says Simelane.
