Rocking the poachers away; Insimbi Legacy projects going strong

“They really are some of the most beautiful animals in the world and it is time we stand up for them."

Insimbi Legacy Projects held a fund-raising event at Stable Inn on Saturday evening, this time with some added rock ‘n’ roll.

Musician Bob Ffole has become the group’s latest spokesperson and uses his musical platform to raise awareness and promote the project.

Ffole gave a short but heartfelt speech on the importance of conservation, and his commitment to the group before performing with his band.

Insimbi Legacy Projects is a non-profit organisation which aims at protecting rhinos that have been killed in numbers by poachers for their horns for many years now.

Carmela Lattanzi started the Insimbi Legacy Projects when one of the dominant male rhino, Insimbi, a widely admired rhino, was killed in a poaching incident in 2014, and has been committed to protecting and preserving rhinos.

The rhinos are kept in their natural environment where they breed naturally and healthily, but most importantly, are protected from poachers with state-of-the-art surveillance equipment.

The reservation is situated in northern Limpopo and people are invited to pay a visit, see the rhinos and engage in rhino monitoring, observation, foot and vehicle patrols and tactical shooting, among others.

Their programme is a more hands-on approach where guests can see for themselves the effort and dedication that is required to protect these gentle giants.

Ffole says: “I have a passion for rhinos.

“Our rhinos are being slaughtered and it’s awful.

“We as people tend to think we are above nature, but we aren’t; we are part of nature.

“They really are some of the most beautiful animals in the world and it is time we stand up for them.

“A rhino is no longer a rhino without that beautiful horn.”

Foley and his band tour all over the country and will be promoting Insimbi Legacy Projects and raising awareness everywhere they perform.
