AfriForum Springs plants trees for Arbor Month

Marina Rathe, principal of THS and the students thanked AfriForum for choosing their school and said wisdom is planting a tree knowing that you will never sit in its shade.

AfriForum Springs celebrated Arbor Month by planting trees at the THS Springs on Friday morning.

Over the last couple of years, AfriForum Springs used the opportunity to plant trees at some of the local schools in our community.

Swart says this year they picked THS Springs and AfriForum members joined learners, teachers and workers from THS to plant the trees.

“AfriForum is committed to preserving our environment for generations to come and by involving our youth in actions like this we trust and believe that it will be something that these learners will remember in years to come.

“This year we opted to plant Acacia Karoo or sweet thorn tree.

“It is a hardy tree that requires very little water,” says AfriForum Springs chairperson Cornel Swart.

Anette van Lill from AfriForum used the opportunity to inform the learners about the Acacia Karoo tree, what the leaves will look like and the importance of trees in nature.
