Felix Twomey calls it a day

While business has not always been easy, Twomey has remained faithful to his first love and has passed on the passion for the business to his two sons, Grant and Wayne.

Springs motor spares legend Felix Twomey is retiring after 58 years in the business.

Twomey started working in the motor spares business at 18, straight after he left school.

“I worked at a shop in Germiston and travelled to work by train.

“I’ve been in the business ever since,” says Twomey.

When he started working in the business, Springs was known as Spanner City, which was filled with people who loved tinkering with their cars.

He has gone from being an employee to employer over the years.

While business has not always been easy, Twomey has remained faithful to his first love and has passed on the passion for the business to his two sons, Grant and Wayne.

Grant has worked with his father over the past eight years and will now be at the helm of the Second Street business.

Wayne has his own shop in Boksburg.

Twomey says he is grateful and happy to be at this point in his life.

“I was sick for a while and there were those who thought I was dead, but I recovered.”

Twomey will now have more time to spend with his wife of 55 years, Maureen, daughter Tanya and five grandchildren.

“I now start my mornings cycling 22km, sometimes more depending on how I feel,” says Twomey.
