Hope&Halos extends a helping hand during Covid-19
Hope&Halos helps the less fortunate
Hope&Halos has been hard at work during lockdown, helping as many people as possible.
The NPO, which is reliant on donations from the public, has coped well during this period but has received a number of requests, specifically for food and clothing, as Covid-19 continues to negatively affect the community.
“We have been blessed by our community and some businesses who have donated funds to enable us to help those in desperate need.
“As the request for food is always at the top of the list, we distributed food parcels, soup and vouchers for a food store.

“We have also assisted some organisations during this time, namely Call her Blessed and Vita Nova,” said Louise Mawhinney, one of the directors at Hope&Halos.
During this period, the organisation has had requests for help from as far as Nelspruit.
When asked how they choose which organisations or people to help, Mawhinney explained they have a set criteria.
The organisation concentrates on Springs and then the close outer areas, such as Kwa-Thema, Brakpan and Nigel.
Unfortunately, they do not have the financial means to support families out of the listed areas.
The organisation prefers to assist families who have no income whatsoever.
Donors are assured the organisation verifies each request received.

“We do visits to the family to verify their details and to get a feel about the situation.
“We do not, under any circumstances, donate cash to an individual,” said Mawhinney.
Additionally, Hope&Halos also helps spread the word about other causes or people in need of help on their Facebook page.
To help Hope&Halos do more, residents can donate directly into their account, purchase food, assist by donating clothing, specifically baby and toddler clothing, nappies, bottles and blankets.
