Sewage problems persist in Daggafontein

Raymond Johnson’s yard becomes submerged in sewage at least twice a month and very little has been done to address the issue.

Residents of Daggafontein are frustrated with the continuing sewage problems plaguing the area.
Hadeda Road resident Raymond Johnson’s yard becomes submerged in sewage at least twice a month and very little has been done to address the issue.
According to Johnson, he is not alone and surrounding houses’ gardens suffer the same fate.

He said the issue has become so bad that he and his neighbours have considered selling their houses and moving.
“There is no quality of life when you are surrounded by sewage every other week. The metro is fully aware of what is going on and they do nothing,” he said.
Johnson and other residents are particularly concerned about construction work happening on the other side of the street.
Construction is underway on a series of flats, which is blocking one of the main manholes of the area.

According to Johnson, these manholes are supposed to be emptied regularly, but the trucks are now unable to reach them due to the construction.
“How could they have not thought of this ahead of time? This has proven to be a disaster for everyone on this road,” he said.
Comment requested from the City of Ekurhuleni will be published once it has been received.
